Bringing together non-believers …
AIK was founded in 2013 by a few truly visionary Kenyans who saw the need for the formation of a Society that brings together atheists. These Kenyans realized that secularism and humanism can offer an alternative to the religious worldview and that advocating for science and critical thinking as a way of understanding the world is imperative in Kenya.
AIK was formally registered as a Society under the Societies Act (Cap. 108), laws of Kenya in February 17th, 2016. The Registrar of Societies suspended our registration on 29th April, 2016. We have filed a case at the high court of Kenya asking the courts overturn this illegal and unconstitutional suspension. The matter was heard by Justice Mwita Chacha in November 1st, 2017. The judgement will be made in January 26th, 2018. We are inviting you to Milimani High Courts for the judgement.
We are really proud to be the first atheist society to be registered in Kenya. We currently have 300 registered members, and a huge following on social media!
We advocate for a separation of religion and state in Kenya. We hold the view that the Kenyan Constitution promotes secularism and fundamental freedoms under the Bill of Rights, including freedom of conscience.
We are the only Atheist Society in Kenya! We are also the most vibrant atheist society in Africa. We want you to join us, and become a part of the transformation of our religious culture that we seek in Kenya.
We are not affiliated with any political party, and we accept any person as member, who declare themselves atheist and non-religious, provided that he is a Kenyan Citizen (18 years and above).
Our mission is to promote the growth and interaction of atheists in Kenya.
All our activities revolve around seven key objectives, which are :
|to promote and practice the open, rational, and scientific examination of the universe and our place in it||
|to advocate that ethics and morality be meaningfully based on rational and humanistic ideals and values||
|to promote skeptical inquiry||
|to provide community for atheists||
|to foster public acceptance of atheists in Kenya||
|to organize activities, such as forums for discussion, guest speakers, and debates||
|to engage in social issues affecting its membership and the wider community||
— Our Values
At the heart of everything we do are our organization values. We stand by them being the
set of behaviors that we expect all our members to embrace to further our ambitions and our objectives.
We Challenge : Because we are skeptical, we challenge un-examined positions, stances, beliefs and traditions.
We Learn: We want to promote science. We’re constantly learning, looking for new knowledge and new information.
We Influence: We want to influence society to embrace critical thinking, reason and logic. We want to make a difference.
