Let’s imagine there is a plant that reproduces, makes more of itself. In 100 years there’s a fair chance this plant wil be around, and might be pretty common, because it reproduced.
Let’s say another plant doesn’t reproduce. In 100 years it will most likely be gone forever.
Both types of plant appear, but only the first type is successful, so only the first type stays around and spreads. That’s why most (read: all) organisms reproduce.
It’s the same reason why we always find flint arrowheads, but never wooden ones. Wooden ones were made, but they didn’t stick around, they rotted away, so now all the old arrowheads are flint.
